This claim will be judged YES if Bob Dole receives 80% or more of the electoral votes in the 1996 presidential election. It will be judged NO if he receives less than 80% of the electoral votes or if there is no presidential election in 1996. If Bob Dole does not run in 1996 for whatever reason, this claim is judged NO. This claim will be paid based on the number of votes reported won by the majority of the evening news programs (CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC on the day after the election, not on the number actually cast. If two of these news organizations report a total under 80% and the other two over, the New York Times of the same day will be used as a tie-bracker. If Dole dies before election day, this claim is judged NO.
Note: Unless there is a constitutional amendment changing the number of electoral votes before the 1996 election, there must be 431 Dole votes (80.4%) for this claim to be judged YES.
